I tried just downloading through the web browser instead, but this caps out at less than half of my download speed, no matter what I do or what browser I use.I can't simply try pausing and resuming because there's no option to Pause, and even if there was, the app isn't responding at all.If i leave it completely, put up with the freezes etc and let it eventually finish on its own, a ZIP folder that it says will take 11-12 hours to download on my 100mbps connection ends up taking at least 48.After a couple of hours though, the app completely freezes and stops downloading altogether for hours on end.

The Backblaze Downloader app constantly freezes up and reports as not responding in Task Manager (although I can see the bzdown_thread(xx).exe files are still running and using my full internet capacity). My real problem though is with downloading the restore packages:

That's on me I should have read properly into how to restore in Backblaze before signing up, and it's more of an annoyance, not a big dealbreaker. To get around that, I've had to split the restore into smaller packages again to download/extract in batches, to allow for that time that the ZIP folder is still also on the HDD until it's finished extracting everything and I can then delete it to free up that space for the next ZIP.Because there's no other way to restore, I need to have double the amount of space available to restore each ZIP folder once to initially download the ZIP, then again to extract the files from it.

  • There's a limit on how much data can be packaged into each ZIP, so I had to split the restore packages up.
  • You can't restore everything to its location automatically you have to choose what to restore and wait for it to packaged into a ZIP, which took over a day in my case.
  • I hit my first hurdle straight away when I realised the desktop app has no restore functionality included you have to log into the website and start the restore from here.
  • I wiped the hard drive, reformatted and got started with restoring, which is where the fun begins.įirstly with starting the restore process: It took a bit longer than hoped (first time I've backed up the entire drive to the cloud so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I have 100mb down/40mb up and it took the entire 2 week trial plus a few days into paying), but it got there and everything was backed up. The backup process was really easy I installed the agent, set it to back up my external drive, removed the relevant exclusions etc to make sure it gets everything, and let it run.

Backblaze seemed like a solid backup software and the pricing is great, so I signed up. Because ~3TB of it is in use, and I don't have another drive to copy it to, my plan was simply to back everything up to the cloud, wipe the hard drive, refortmat it as NTFS, then restore everything to it. I have a 4TB external drive connected to my PC that I needed to reformat from exFAT to NTFS without losing the data.
